Young People “Doing Well”- a Hated Crowd

Supposingly I’ve been a young guy doing well, so I’m part of one of the most hated crowds. Supposingly I spent my years on self-development while other young people were flipping burgers, chasing young dumb girls in bars (or vice versa, trying to line up as many lonely guys as possible), and sitting at home with a bag of chips in front of the TV.

Over the years I’m viewed as the young rich cunt and get little sympathy from the public because I did not do… other young people things. How dare I not spend spare time chasing young dumb girls. How dare I spend my money on stocks and properties and not dumb girls. How dare I spend my spare time writing, reading about stocks, going to the gym, and doing other personal development things that make me smile. How dare I skip grades in high school. How dare I go finish 3 years of university by age 19. How dare I start driving semis when I was 20. How dare I work 10-15+ hour days in down to -48C weather up to 13 hours away from home. etc.

Or- using the oilfield/Alberta economy example. Supposingly if person A is suffering or desperate for whatever reason somewhat unique to his/her situation, then you should share his/her pain. If you do not, desperate worker syndrome dictates that you are a cunt.

My view has been that if you want something out of your life, nothing should get in your way. If you want something- make it happen. Balls to the wall. Whether you are 18, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, or whether the price of oil is $20, $30, $40, $50, $100/barrel.
